Each week, The Gazette is proud to present Time Machine in the Sunday paper, taking a look back at some of the most notable people, places and events in Eastern Iowa’s history.
Recent installments explored:
- the Wright Brothers connection to Cedar Rapids,
- the history of the former Iowa Theater, which today is home to Theatre Cedar Rapids,
- a look at Plum Grove, the Iowa City home built by the first governor of the Iowa territory,
- the energy crisis in 1973 that dimmed the Christmas lights in downtown Cedar Rapids.
Now, The Gazette is packaging 50 of our favorite Time Machine stories into a wonderful coffee table book, “Ties to Our Past.” The book will be a great gift for family and friends (or a wonderful gift for yourself) to look back at people and places that have shaped Eastern Iowa over the decades.
